Fender Musical Instruments Corporation was founded in 1946 as an American manufacturer specializing in stringed instruments and amplifiers. Founder Leo Fender invented the first commercially mass-produced solid-body electric guitar in 1948 — the Telecaster (originally called the Broadcaster, commonly nicknamed “Tele”) — replacing the traditional glued neck with a bolt-on design that made electric guitar production far more practical. That same year, Leo Fender created another revolutionary instrument: the Fender Precision Bass, with a more compact, playable body that overcame the many drawbacks of the upright double bass — its unwieldy size and insufficient volume. These two legendary inventions by Leo Fender laid the foundation for popular music instruments for decades to come, influencing musicians and the entire music industry worldwide.
