To demonstrate its ambitions in online music, Rock Records Group spun off its entertainment division in 1999 to establish “Rock Network Co., Ltd.” and formally marched into the internet business. Rock Cola was one arm of this initiative: in addition to scouting artists online, it sold their work as digital music (MP3). Reports from 1999 noted that by that year Rock Cola had recruited 100 artists and over 700 songs from around the world — compared with 50 artists built up over 20 years in the physical world, the power of the internet was strikingly evident. It was reported that Rock Cola planned to bring 10,000 creators online within a year.
