Three Networks Broadcast Anti-Communist Drama Together

Beginning January 12, 1976, the General Political Warfare Department of the Ministry of National Defense began requisitioning the Monday-to-Friday 9:00–9:30 PM time slots of TTV, CTV, and CTS to simulcast the anti-communist TV drama Cold Current, broadcast in Mandarin, Taiwanese, and Hakka respectively. This practice of all three networks simultaneously airing the same program became a permanent fixture. Starting from James Soong’s tenure as GIO Director, simulcast programming was produced on a rotating basis among the three networks. In addition to anti-communist educational programs, content also included media, technology, and civic education programs — among them a documentary travel series, Journey of Impressions, produced by Lei Hsiang, Chang Chao-tang, and Christopher Doyle. The three-network simulcast continued until 2000.
