Founded in 1982, Yu Kuang music magazine primarily covered Western popular music, with some coverage of Japanese pop. Its content combined music journalism with pop music knowledge, introducing monthly pop album releases, updates on international artists, and articles on the history and knowledge of Western music.
Yu Kuang hosted programs including “Song of Youth” on Police Radio, “Youth Melody” and “Shining Rhythms” on TTV, and specialized in introducing the American Billboard charts. Yu Kuang combined radio programming and his magazine to become the major and most important channel through which young Taiwanese music fans of the 1980s accessed news about “Western music.” Yu Kuang magazine ceased publication in the early 2000s but continues to exist in the form of a website and concert production company — the longest-lived pop music journal in Taiwan.
