In 1996, Cubase released the VST (Virtual Studio Technology) interface SDK, from which point creative software for computer-based sound production truly blossomed, making it possible to complete virtually all electronic sound creation using only a computer.
Cubase is a music software developed by Germany’s Steinberg. It can be used for professional composing, recording, and mixing — a fully-equipped Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). Cubase’s first version was released in 1989, recording in MIDI format on the Atari ST computer; it gradually evolved into a comprehensive music workstation supporting both Mac and Windows platforms.
The ASIO, VST, and VSTi concepts introduced by Steinberg through the Cubase family have since become important standards for computer music creation software.
