Spotify is a music streaming service that originated in Sweden and is the world’s largest streaming music provider. It began offering services in Europe and North America in 2009, and first entered the Asian market in April 2013, expanding to Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia with both free and monthly subscription tiers. Taiwanese users began registering in September 2013. In addition to a service model that differs from traditional paid-download logic, Spotify’s powerful social platform and music discovery features are a key selling point — Spotify emphasizes that its service makes it easier for users to share and discover the music they love.
According to a 2015 survey, Spotify’s average daily unique visitors in Taiwan reached 130,000, placing it alongside KKBOX as one of Taiwan’s two dominant music streaming platforms.
