Date: 2006-07-17 · Author: Jeph LoYao Ta-chün, who began composing experimental avant-garde music in the 1970s, assembled young vanguard musicians from across the region starting in 1997 to form the “Taipei Sound Group” and the “China Sound Group” — mobile, forward-moving organisations dedicated to research into auditory cognition and composition, conducting surveillance, reflection, collection, organisation, analysis, preservation, deconstruction, and recontextualisation of sonic entities across Taiwan, Hong Kong, and mainland China. Members of each Sound Group became representative figures in the new generation of vanguard music throughout those communities.
From 2003 Yao Ta-chün returned to Taiwan to run the “Computer Music Lab” at Taipei National University of the Arts.
