After the Korean War in 1950, the number of U.S. military personnel stationed in Taiwan increased significantly. To serve the American troops, the Ministry of National Defense established “Voice of Sino-American Forces” (中美軍人之聲) within the military broadcasting network in 1955. In 1957, the U.S. military took over independent production and established the American Forces Network Taiwan (AFNT), which transformed into ICRT in 1979. In 1966, an FM channel was added — the first FM radio station in Taiwan — with programming independently produced and provided by the United States.
