The first Wild Stage Rock (野台開唱) festival was held in 1995 at Taipei City Hall Plaza and Da-an Forest Park. It became Taiwan’s most internationally significant music festival and an important stage for Taiwanese bands. At the fourth edition in 1998, Mayor Chen Shui-bian attended in his capacity as mayor; at the tenth edition in 2004 he attended as head of state, noting that as a legislator in 1995 he had helped launch the very first festival.
