For the disco devotees of the 1980s, the Diana and Madonna dance halls on Linsen North Road were household names. It was not until 1986 that the first fully licensed disco club, “KISS,” opened with great fanfare on the third floor of the Chung-Tai Hotel — instantly becoming the most fashionable indoor leisure destination for young people.

Stepping inside for the first time felt like entering a fantastical space station; visitors were immediately drawn to the stylishly sleek seating and bar. The ever-shifting lights and dazzling dance floor design were simply breathtaking. Once the ear-splitting pop music started, colourfully dressed dancers joyfully moved and swayed to the beat; those who preferred to watch held their drinks at the edge of the dance floor, tapping along with gusto… This was surely the forerunner of what we now call the “nightclub.”
