Feeling that “sound perception” is constantly overlooked by busy people, artist Wu Tsan-cheng launched a six-year Taiwan Sound Map Project beginning in 2010. He divided Taiwan into five regions and systematically collected and recorded sounds from across the island. With countless possible sound sources to choose from, Wu selected unusual sound events or everyday objects as his recording subjects. Whenever time allowed, he would return to areas he had already recorded to conduct additional recordings, presenting as fully as possible the differences and phenomena in sound as they changed across time and space.
