After three years of fighting from 1950, the Korean War came to a temporary halt on July 27, 1953, when the three warring parties — the People’s Republic of China, North Korea, and the United Nations — signed the Korean Armistice Agreement. The armistice established a demilitarized zone between North and South Korea.
