iNDIEVOX was founded in 2007 by Wu Po-chang, lead singer of the indie band ECHO (回聲). It was one of Taiwan’s earliest legitimate MP3 download platforms (the earlier one being Rock Cola) and was dedicated to promoting independent music creation: building a comprehensive music database, continuously improving website features, launching mobile services, and maintaining close ties with local musicians. By 2016 it had accumulated 3,000 bands, with labels from Europe, the United States, Japan, Hong Kong, and mainland China also joining.
In 2010 iNDIEVOX expanded into ticketing services, partnering with major live houses north, central, and south, and allying with major music festivals such as Megaport, Spring Scream, and Rooftop Music Festival. Membership surpassed 300,000. It later launched the iNDIEVOX Smart Radio, allowing users not only to browse music by genre but also to choose music based on “mood.”
