In 1988, Taiwan’s first optical disc manufacturer, Ritek Corporation, was established. In 1990, Ritek began pressing CDs, becoming the first domestic manufacturer to mass-produce CDs. By the mid-1990s, CDs had become widespread, with an average retail price dropping to around NT$300, making them the preferred listening format for music fans. The emergence of the CD transformed music recording and reproduction from analogue to digital technology, representing the greatest revolution in the rise of the record industry.
