“Nanhai What Sound” (南海啥聲) was organised by i/O SoundLab. From 2006, three consecutive performances — “Nanhai What Sound 1,” “2,” and “3” — were held at Nanhai Gallery. Core members included Tsai Hsin-yuan, Chang Yung-ta, Wang Chung-kun, and Yao Chung-han. Nanhai Gallery was one of the few art spaces at the time that was welcoming to sound work. Through the Nanhai What Sound series, domestic and international performers including i/O SoundLab., recorderz, MFMF, Six Explosions in a Phonebooth, students from Taipei National University of the Arts and Taipei National University of Education, Sweden’s Tape, and a group from the Dutch Art Institute all performed there.
