On July 31, 1968, the BCC FM broadcasting system — also the first FM broadcasting system in the Republic of China — officially commenced operations. The first BCC FM station to use the system (the Taipei area FM station, now known as BCC Pop Network) was inaugurated that afternoon by then-Vice President Yen Chia-kan at the press of a button. This broadcasting system broke free from the previous reliance on AM-only transmission, ushering Taiwan’s radio broadcasting into a new era of FM stereo sound.
