Chiang Hui-hsien, Chang Chao-wei, and Chang Yü-chang — from the POkey team — formed the “People’s Music Research Group — Alternative Shores Score” reading circle in 1994, treating the reading circle essentially as a form of social movement. They sought an alternative perspective on people’s music, and in 1995 co-hosted a month-long “Do Your Own Song” programme with the “Taiwan Walker” café (the former Sweet Honey). “Kuan-tzu Music Pit” — the precursor to the “Cross-the-Sea Band” (Chiao-kung Yüeh-tui) — was one of the performing groups.
