Channel V is a music channel born and bred in Asia. After MTV Asia launched in 1994, Hong Kong’s Star TV International Media Group decided to follow suit, establishing an Asian music television channel. Channel V subsequently set up branches in Taiwan, India, Korea, the Philippines, Thailand, and Australia. Originally intended to broadcast local music videos, from 2000 onward it gradually reduced its MV programming in favour of producing various variety shows and animation. In 2012, Taiwan’s Channel V was directly rebranded as Fox Taiwan, transitioning from a music channel to an original Fox programming channel.
