Electronic and Rock Music Trucks Join Anti-Nuclear March

The “April 30 Sunflower Anti-Nuclear March” of 2011 featured not only civic organizations such as the Humanistic Education Foundation and the National Alliance of Community Universities, but also a Youth Anti-Nuclear Brigade formed by student groups, expressing opposition to nuclear power in a youthful way. Yang Tzu-chi of the “No Nukes Cultural Action Group” announced that two stage trucks would join the anti-nuclear procession — one playing electronic dance music, the other hosting rotating live rock performances — hoping to add a different energy and vitality to the march.

Using the 2011 electronic float as an example, Yang emphasized that the electronic music community has its own collective cohesion. No Nukes hoped to join forces with that community to channel its solidarity into anti-nuclear action — spreading the message through different groups, each using their own language and reaching their own audience, expanding the movement’s impact.
