Founded in 1999 and dedicated to curating independent music and rock performances, White Rabbit Records launched the “P Festival” music festival in 2014 based on the concept of subverting the hard-edged rock live experience.

The “P” stands for Piano. Most music fans might associate the piano with the elevated world of classical recitals, but White Rabbit wanted to do the opposite — to bring the piano into informal, more intimate performance settings. White Rabbit had previously distributed niche contemporary piano artists such as Max Richter, Balmorhea, and Nils Frahm, as well as Taiwanese band Cicada, with reasonably strong sales; this perhaps gave them confidence that the idea was viable. Beyond representing the piano, “P” also stands for “破” (break) — breaking down musical boundaries and liberating the image of the “piano” from its institutional pedestal.
