Rock Records — full name “Rock International Music Co., Ltd.” (originally called Rock Sound Publishing) — was founded in 1980 by brothers Tuan Chung-i and Tuan Chung-tan. It is Taiwan’s first homegrown record company, the largest record label in the Chinese-speaking world, and currently the largest independent record company in Asia outside Japan. Artists and music producers under its banner — including Jonathan Lee, Hsiao Chung, Sylvia Chang, Lo Ta-yu, Emil Wakin Chau, Chang Chen-yue, Mayday, and Cheer Chen — all went on to become major figures in Taiwan’s music industry.
