Crystal Records, after an early phase of distributing foreign music, was taken over by Jen Chiang-ta and Lin Tzu-ling in 1986. It transformed into one of the most pioneering independent record labels in Taiwan in the 1990s.
Founded in 1986 (ceased publication 1991), Rocker expanded from the *Wax Club* newsletter and was published by Crystal Records. It was the most important publication in advancing Taiwan's new music, serving as many listeners' point of entry into alternative sounds. Early issues came with a cassette tape.

Though rough in sound quality, it carried powerful and deeply moving emotions. It may be the first album in Taiwan recorded cheaply in a live performance setting to receive widespread critical acclaim.
Pull Myself Out was the last album to be banned in Taiwan's publishing history. In 1990, the Government Information Office seized the record on grounds that the 'lyrics are vulgar, indecent, and contrary to public morals.'
Reflection on Taiwan's local identity drove Crystal Records to explore and document sounds that authentically captured Taiwan's grassroots culture. Sounds from the Depths of Taiwan — a collection of folk and indigenous music — was one such document.
