Nurtured by Yao Ta-chün, the “Taipei Sound Group” was formed in 2003, comprising Li Yue-ling (Rio), Chen Li-wei (Wei), and Hsieh Chung-chi (Wolfenstein). Their creative practice centres on musique concrète and uses field recordings as source material.
At the 2004 “Taipei Sonar” performance, Hsieh Chung-chi used sounds sampled from protests on Ketagalan Boulevard, while Li Yue-ling documented through soundscape recording the overlooked sounds of the city, drawing out the most minute sonic textures of everyday life and placing listeners as though present. Chen Li-wei deconstructed familiar everyday soundwaves, rendering them as abstract electronic soundscapes.
