The history of television in Taiwan began with the inaugural broadcast of Taiwan Television Company (TTV) on October 10, 1962. The groundwork was laid by the “Sino-Japanese Television Industry Research Group,” with Lin Po-shou — a descendant of the Banqiao Lin family — serving as chairman, and the Provincial News Bureau Director Chou Tien-hsiang taking over as general manager.
