The Wall Music Arts and Performance Space was originally co-founded on 13 November 2003 by Freddy (lead singer of Chthonic), Spring Scream co-organiser Jimi (Mou Chi-min), and Chairman Band’s A-chi. From 2005 it was operated and part-owned by Fu Chien-wen (Orbis). Spanning over 300 square metres and with a capacity of approximately 600, The Wall became an important music production and performance space nurturing Taiwan’s rock and independent bands and singer-songwriters. It has been named one of Taipei’s top ten attractions by New York Magazine and featured in The New York Times, *Monocle*, and other international media.
Over subsequent years it expanded to include THE WALL at Pier-2 Art Centre in Kaohsiung (2010) and THE WALL at the former Yilan Tobacco and Alcohol Retailer in Yilan County (2011). From 2009 it transformed into THE WALL MUSIC, extending its organisational scope to co-present national tours and mid-sized concerts by Taiwanese bands, while inviting acts from Europe, the United States, and Japan. From 2010 it also co-presents the “Megaport Festival” in Kaohsiung, whose distinctive character and local rootedness have made it a landmark event. In 2013 it revived the Wild Stage Rock festival originally launched by university students in the 1990s, producing what was, by international standards, Taiwan’s most accomplished outdoor music festival.
