90年代校園裡的一群學生在跨校圖書會與報社結識，相繼創辦了報紙《甜蜜蜜》、《台大學生報》副刊《甜蜜蜜的午後》，隨後吳中煒在1993年開了甜蜜蜜咖啡。 In the 1990s, a group of students met across campuses through inter-university reading clubs and newspapers, co-founding publications including the newspaper Sweetness, and the NTU Student Newspaper supplement Sweetness Afternoons. Wu Chung-wei followed by opening Sweetness Café in 1993.

Universities across Taiwan saw a surge in underground publications, including NTU's Bitter Struggle Report and Humanities Report, Furen's Sweetness, Tsing Hua's Toilet Paper and Shit, and the Arts Academy's Xuantong Report.
台北破爛生活節起於延續甜蜜蜜咖啡屋的精神，於1994年9月2-5日選在台北永福橋下舉辦，活動集合了噪音、搖滾、小劇場、SM、裝置藝術、實驗短片等。 The Taipei Broken Life Festival grew out of the spirit of Sweetness Café.
