The first Spring Scream, organised in Kenting by several foreigners living in Taiwan in 1995, gave enormous inspiration to young band members across Taiwan. That same year, the NTU Alternative Music Society, the Coconut Wind Society, and the NTNU Affiliated High School Guitar Club jointly organised the “Dionysus Festival — Underground Sounding Festival” at NTU’s Drunkard Lake, featuring eighteen bands and proclaiming a desire to “reclaim our music.” This was the beginning of cross-school music-club collaboration. Hsü Heng-wei, then studying Business Management at Fu Jen, was also present; seizing on the still-burning enthusiasm, he proposed the concept of the “Northern University Rock Alliance.” After multiple cross-school music-club meetings, the “Northern University Rock Alliance” was formally established with over ten Taipei universities and colleges signing on. Its first concert event was “Rock Won’t Die, Roll Won’t Fall,” and in 1996 it launched the inaugural “Wild Stage Rock” (Yeh-t’ai K’ai-ch’ang) music festival.
