1957

台北美軍電台成立 U.S. Armed Forces Radio Taiwan Established

1950年韓戰後進駐台灣的美軍人數增多，國防部為服務在台美軍，於1955年在軍中廣播電台成立「中美軍人之聲」，1957年美軍接手開始獨立製作，成立美軍廣播電台（1979年後轉型為ICRT）。 As U.S. troop numbers in Taiwan grew after the Korean War, the Ministry of National Defense established the 'Voice of China-America' segment on military radio in 1955. In 1957, the U.S. military took over independent production, launching Armed Forces Radio Taiwan — which became ICRT after 1979.

1988

中廣青春網開台 BCC Youth Network Launches

1988年開播的「中廣青春網」是台灣第一個鎖定年輕聽眾，全天候播放流行音樂的電台，裡投集結了一批台灣廣播史上最最放肆乖張、動搖國本的年輕DJ。 The Broadcasting Corporation of China's Youth Network, which launched in 1988, was Taiwan's first radio station aimed exclusively at young listeners and dedicated to playing pop music around the clock. It assembled a roster of the most irreverent and influential young DJs in Taiwanese broadcasting history.

1991

《島嶼邊緣》創刊 Island Margin Magazine Founded

《島嶼邊緣》雜誌由王浩威、姚立群等人發行，大體而言投入者都有「超越狹隘的統獨國族論述，進行全面的激進民主鬥爭」的基本共識。 Island Margin magazine, published by Wang Hao-wei, Yao Li-chun, and others, united contributors around a shared commitment to 'transcending narrow unification/independence nationalist discourse and pursuing an all-encompassing radical democratic struggle.'

1993

行政院新聞局首次開放國內廣播頻道受理民間申設 GIO Opens Radio Spectrum to Private Applications for the First Time

地下電臺問題，1993年起政府逐步開放廣播頻道的開放，迄2000年10月，政黨輪替後，政府總共辦理了10梯次的廣播頻道開放。 In response to the underground radio station problem, the government began gradually opening radio frequencies from 1993 onward. By October 2000, following the change in government, a total of ten rounds of frequency licensing had been conducted.

1996

香港《音樂殖民地》引進台灣 Hong Kong’s Music Colony Magazine Introduced in Taiwan

香港知名音樂雜誌《音樂殖民地》由樂評袁智聰於1994年創辦，主要報導獨立、電子與另類等非主流音樂，1996年被引入台灣帶來國外一手的音訊。 Music Colony, Hong Kong's well-regarded music magazine founded by critic Yuen Chi-tsung in 1994, focused on independent, electronic, and alternative music. It was brought into Taiwan in 1996, providing first-hand international music intelligence.

2006

NCC成立 National Communications Commission (NCC) Established

2005年10月25日，立法院第6屆第2會期第7次會議通過《國家通訊傳播委員會組織法》後於2006 年2 月22 日成立國家通訊傳播委員會（NCC）。 Following the passage of the National Communications Commission Organization Act on October 25, 2005 during the sixth legislative session, the National Communications Commission (NCC) was formally established on February 22, 2006.

2010

國家通訊傳播委員會陸續取締地下電台 NCC Continues Crackdowns on Underground Radio Stations

地下電台，其實就是非法電台，從1989年誕生直到今天，台灣地下電台雖然從不曾合法過，但卻屢禁不絕，背後的原因除了其中涉及的利益鏈條盤根錯節，還跟台灣的民粹風氣有關。 Underground radio stations — in essence, illegal broadcasters — have existed since 1989. Though never legal, Taiwan's underground radio scene has proven impossible to suppress. The reasons include entangled webs of commercial interests as well as Taiwan's populist political culture.
