台灣走向自由化與國際化 Taiwan Moves Toward Liberalization and Internationalization

在美國強大的貿易報復壓力下，1984年6月，行政院長俞國華提出「自由化，國際化，制度化」的經濟發展方針，指出經濟建設的重點在調整經濟結構與加速工業升級。 Under heavy U.S. trade pressure, Premier Yu Kuo-hwa introduced the policy of 'liberalization, internationalization, and institutionalization' in June 1984, directing economic policy toward structural adjustment and accelerated industrial upgrading.

台灣列入美國「特別301」優先觀察名單 Taiwan Placed on U.S. Special 301 Priority Watch List

301條款是一九七四年貿易法經修訂的一個條款，授權美國貿易代表經由談判根除外國的不公平貿易行徑，台灣曾在1989年被列入特別301優先觀察國家名單。 Section 301 is a provision of the revised 1974 Trade Act that authorizes the U.S. Trade Representative to negotiate the elimination of unfair foreign trade practices. Taiwan was placed on the Special 301 Priority Watch List in 1989.

亞洲金融危機 Asian Financial Crisis

亞洲金融風暴發生於1997年7月至10月，由泰國開始，之後進一步蔓延至鄰近亞洲國家的貨幣、股票市場和其它的資產價值暴跌。亞洲各國經濟遭受嚴重打擊，紛紛進入大蕭條，並造成社會動盪和政局不穩。 The Asian financial crisis occurred from July to October 1997, beginning in Thailand and rapidly spreading to neighboring Asian economies, causing dramatic collapses in currencies, stock markets, and asset values. Asian economies were severely damaged, entering deep recessions accompanied by social unrest and political instability.
