In 1907, Japan and the United States jointly established the “Nichi-Bei Chikuonki Seizo Kabushiki Kaisha.” In 1910, this company was renamed the “Nippon Chikuonki Shokai” (Japan Phonograph Company), commonly abbreviated as “Nichi-Chiku.” Nichi-Chiku Record Company was the first to enter Taiwan’s market in 1910, establishing a branch office — the “Kabushiki Kaisha Nippon Chikuonki Shokai Taipei Shutchojo” — on Futai Street in Taipei. In 1928, Columbia Records merged with Nichi-Chiku.
