The “Avant-Garde Music Network” (前衛音樂網) and later “Pre-Taste Music Network” (前味音樂網) grew from a branch of the “New Logic Arts and Culture Network” established in February 1999. Its main content consisted of radio programmes edited, recorded, and distributed by Yao Ta-chün. Episodes were cut into two parts of 55 minutes each; the finished product was then pressed onto discs, copied into seven or eight copies, and mailed to various radio stations for broadcast. They were subsequently encoded and compressed into RealAudio or MP3 format and uploaded to the programme’s online edition. By 2014, over eighty episodes had been produced.
The New Logic Arts and Culture Network was co-founded by Yao Ta-chün and Ts’ao Chih-lien as an arts website, with branches including “Miao-miu Miao” (temple of the marvellously absurd), “Concrete Text,” “Extraordinary Aesthetics,” “Avant-Garde Music Network,” and “Pre-Taste Music Radio” — covering, beyond music, concrete literature, multimedia art, and other avant-garde domains.
