Although the number of electronic music and rave enthusiasts in the 1990s had yet to reach mainstream proportions, “rave” had become a fashionable buzzword. On October 25, 1996, the Taipei City Government activated an event in Citizens’ Square named “Super Citizens, Rave Carnival,” at which Taipei Mayor Chen Shui-bian made his entrance dressed as a three-in-one combination of “Superman, Michael Jackson, and Sung Ch’i-li.”
